A group of dedicated sailors wanted to share their passion for the sport of sailing with the local area youth. The Ludington area is a natural and unique water environment ideal for sailing. Yet, at the time, there were no organized public programs in the immediate area to teach sailing to our youngsters.
These classes set the foundation of safety, seamanship, and sportsmanship. You must be at least 8 years old to take the class. Sailors begin with classroom instructions, then sailing with instructors, then in pairs, and then alone, depending on comfort level. Variety, fun, and skill building are the core of the curriculum. Games, both on and off the water, and nomenclature are important parts of the class. Each student will receive an LYSS t'shirt with registration.
The Ludington Youth Sailing School is an IRS 501(c)3 not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization. The Ludington Youth Sailing School is incorporated in the State of Michigan.
